Patrick M. Connery, 83, of Conroe, TX, formerly of Springfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at his home. Patrick was a loving husband, father and friend who will be missed by all. He was and will always be young at heart; celebrating life, family, and friends. Patrick's memory will live in the hearts of those he touched and the legacy of his family. Patrick was born August 10, 1927, in Dixon County, NE, the son of James P. and Theresa Dempsey Connery. He married Shirley Weichenthal on June 4, 1952, in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Stanton, NE. Patrick was a graduate of Newcastle High School in Newcastle, NE in 1945, and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He later attended Wayne State College in 1950. He began working for Dept. of Roads in Nebraska and with the City of Omaha, NE. He retired in 1994 as a civil engineer from the Federal Highway Administration with 34 years of federal service. He earned Registered Professional Engineer Emeritus Status in 2000. He was a member of the Chatham American Legion; VFW; Springfield Elk's Club; Illinois Po.L.K. of A. Klub; NARFE; and Christ the King Church of Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Leo Connery; two sisters, Pearl Cummins and Theresa Wendte; nephew, Harry Lee Wendte; and son-in-law, Reid Simpson. Patrick is survived by his wife, Shirley Connery of Conroe, TX; three sons, Daniel P. Connery of Pembroke Pines, FL; Kevin J. (wife, Melanie) Connery of The Woodlands, TX; Brian A. Connery of Pembroke Pines, FL; one daughter Ann Simpson of El Paso, IL; seven grandchildren, Dane, Brett, and Ryne Simpson, Dylan, Mason, and Madison Connery, and Winston (wife, Kyla) Fant. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry, Springfield. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Christ the King Parish with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
