

He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on November 14, 1940, the son of George C. and Helen M. (Bowman) Kramer. Paul married Joyce S. Schien on February 14, 1986. They celebrated 40 years of marriage this year.
Paul graduated from University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 1963. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Paul proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 until 1969, serving in Vietnam, earning the rank of Captain. He was a civil engineer for over 30 years, retiring from the State of Illinois Division of Aeronautics. Paul was a member of American Legion Post #743, advisor for Aviation Explorer Post #731, and helped found the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight. Paul loved the Lord and was very involved with his local church communities. He spent time volunteering at Kumler Neighborhood Ministries.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Mike Hogan; and brothers, Peter S. and Robert G. Kramer.
Paul is survived by his wife, Joyce Kramer; daughters, Cheryl L. (Daniel) Egan of Grand Rapids and Chrissy Thomas of Springfield; son, Brad (Carmen) Kramer of Williamsville; stepchildren, Pat Hogan of Jacksonville, Ann Marie (Bill) Swalley of Glen Carbon, Mary Jo (Mark) Weimer of Edwardsville and Amy (Don) Lonergan of South Carolina; grandchildren, lovingly known as Paul’s ducklings, Josh Furbeck, Jacob Furbeck, Jessica Haley, Jamie Haley, Hayden Hogan, Ben Hogan, Carly Rizzitano, Brock Weimer, Madison Weimer, Sophia Swalley, Stella Swalley, Logan Kramer, Regan Kramer, Jackson Thomas, and Addison Thomas; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Marylu Kramer and Ann Kramer.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL.
Graveside Ceremony: 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Woodwreath Cemetery, Old Jacksonville Rd., New Berlin, IL, with military honors provided.
