He was born in Springfield, September 20, 1924 the son of Paul K and Hannah J. (Miller) Riemer Sr. He married Mary Richardson October 11, 1946 and she preceded him in death, December 29, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters; Paula Jean Livesly and Marilyn Pasco.
Paul was an iron worker for many years. He worked out of the Local Union 46 on various projects and in 1962 went to work for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. He finished his career as a supervisor, retiring in 1986. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, Pleasant Plains, the oldest member of Iron Workers Local 46, and a past member of the 38 Club at Lake Springfield, where he pitched horseshoes and play shuffle board. He also served on the Inner Council of Lake Clubs. Paul was a member of the Springfield Art Association and was a well know metal sculpture. He is best known for the aluminum sculpture at Ash and MacArthur in Springfield, the iron sculpture “True Love” at the Springfield Art Association, and the stainless steel crucifix at Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains.
Paul is survived by his children: James (Retha) A. Riemer of Springfield, Beverly (David) McCurley of Rochester, IL, and Paul D. (fiancé Suzanne Zachary) Riemer of Farmingdale, IL. He has six grandchildren: Jimmy (Laura) Riemer, Andrea (Josh) Kates, both of Springfield, Paul J. Riemer, of Andrew, IL, Melissa Riemer-Smith of Champaign, IL, Chris McCurley of Rochester, IL, and Eric (Jayme) Riemer of Springfield. There are seven great grandchildren.
Visitation and Service: The Riemer family will greet family and friends Friday, April 7, 2017 from 9:30 am until time of the funeral service at 10:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church, Pleasant Plains, IL. Pastor Don Pritchard will officiate. Burial will follow in Farmington Cemetery, Farmingdale, IL.
