

Philip E. "Pete" Guernsey, 73, of Pleasant Plains, died at 6:50 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Illinois Veterans Home, after a lengthy illness. Pete was born December 17, 1941 in Mechanicsburg, the son of Clarence "Link" and Erma Beecraft Guernsey. He married Nancy Pickett on March 2, 1973 at Farmingdale Presbyterian Church. Pete was a 1960 graduate of Tri City High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960-1966. He was self-employed and retired from the heating and cooling industry. He enjoyed camping in Texas in the winter, and was a sports enthusiast. Some of his favorite teams were the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls, but he enjoyed all sports. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Donald and David Guernsey; one brother, Gary Guernsey; and one sister, Dorothy Smith. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Guernsey of Pleasant Plains; three sons, Todd (wife, Connie) McMillan of Pleasant Plains, Brian (wife, Sheri) McMillan of Kingwood, TX, and Eric (wife, Joanie) McMillan of Springfield; ten grandchildren, Brian and Emily Guernsey, Amy (husband, Kirk) Metzger, Jake and Luke McMillan, Amanda (husband, Phillip) Waggoner, Joshua (wife, Brandy) McMillan, Ben (wife, Taylor) McMillan, and Lanie and Megan McMillan; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris (husband, Roger) Cullers and Dana Harbour, both of Springfield; three brothers, Kenneth (wife, Mary Lou) Guernsey of Bloomington, Dennis (wife, Judy) Guernsey, and Dale Guernsey, both of Springfield; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery in Farmingdale. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
