Philip L. Schinneer

Philip Lawrence Schinneer, 60, of Springfield, died at 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at the VA Illiana Healthcare System in Danville. He was born in June of 1947 in Springfield, the son of Robert and Mary Eloise Barbre Schinneer. Phil was a 1965 graduate of Griffin High School and also attended Loras College. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the 22nd Infantry Division in Vietnam. He was decorated with the Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign medal, Vietnam Service medal with two campaign stars, Combat Infantrymans badge, and several other medals. He also received a commendation from the President of the United States. He once owned TRAMCO, where he specialized in foreign car repairs. He was especially fond of Triumphs, MG’s, and Shelby Cobras. He was also a volunteer at the Mini O’Beirne Crisis Nursery where he performed carpentry and electrical work. Phil was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his mother, Mary Eloise Schinneer of Rochester; two brothers: David (Karen) Schinneer and Christopher (Sandra) Schinneer of Springfield; four sisters: Michele ( Robert) Smith of Tenants Harbor, ME, Stephanie (Jim) Hanely of Taylorville, Patrice (Dan) Olson of Farragut, TN and Elise (Rich) Miksch of Frisco, TX; one aunt, Helen Smarjesse of Peoria; twelve nieces and nephews and seventeen cousins. The family welcomes friends to visit for a Memorial Gathering from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The Memorial Gathering will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Chiola officiating. Graveside ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
