

R. Michael Rebbe, 87, of Springfield, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 19, 2015. Mike was born December 24, 1927 in Detroit, MI, the son of Paul Anthony and Edna Draheim Rebbe, who preceded him in death. He married Carlajean Hollis on July 4, 1950 in Petersburg, and they celebrated their 65th Anniversary this year. Mike was a 1945 graduate of Petersburg High School and earned his Mortuary Science degree in 1947 from Worshams College. He proudly served his country in the Army fighting in Korea during the Korean War. His employment included Satorius Funeral Home and Ellinger-Kunz Funeral Home, West Food Stores Inc., Seiling Motor Company, and Prudential Insurance Company for 17 years. Later, he became partner in the Gerdes-Montgomery-Rebbe Insurance Agency. Mike was a past secretary of Petersburg Kiwanis, City Council member, co-founder of Petersburg Little League and Pony League Baseball; formed and coached a girls' softball league team, active in Petersburg Jaycees, and the charter president of the athletic booster club at PORTA H.S. Mike was active at St. Peter Parish as President of Parish Board, Trustee, Cemetery Board, Financial Committee, and representative of Springfield Deanery Board. He was a current member of Christ the King Parish. Mike enjoyed golf, traveling, and was an avid Cub's fan. He is survived by his wife, Carlajean Rebbe; son, Thaddeus (fiance, Kristen Schone) Rebbe; daughter, Monica (Ted) Harvatin; and three grandchildren, Alex Harvatin, Taylor and Nicholas Rebbe. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 711 S. 6th St., Petersburg, with Rev. Msgr. Thomas Holinga, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Petersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to: Catholic Charities of Springfield, 1625 W. Washington, Springfield, IL 62702. Also, Mass intentions may be given to either church. If it was up to him, this Obit would read: "I was here, now I'm gone". We will miss his wit and sense of humor every day.
