
The Reverend Donald F. Sederwall of Alton, died 3:10 p.m. at his residence. Fr. Sederwall was the son of Otto LeRoy and Frances Marie Likes Sederwall, the youngest of three children. He was born on May 23, 1929 in Quincy, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Esther Sederwall and a brother, William Sederwall. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Honore Sederwall of La Grange, MO, a niece, Sandra Hastings of Moberly, MO and a nephew, William (wife, Sharon) Sederwall, of Quincy, Illinois and his niece, Linda (husband, John) Stratman of West Plains, MO; aunts, several cousins, great nieces and nephews and by his special friend, Richard (wife, Ruth) Halle of Quincy, Illinois. He attended school in Quincy and Pope John XXIII National Seminary, Weston, MA, where he studied for the priesthood. Fr. Sederwall worked at St. Mary's Hospital, Quincy, IL, Excelsior Stove Co., Quincy, IL and the Burlington Northern Railroad in Hannibal, MO and Quincy, IL. He worked for the railroad for thirty years, retiring in August, 1981, at which time he entered Pope John XXIII National Seminary where he studied for the priesthood. He was ordained to the Diaconate April, 1984, at the seminary by the Most Rev. Bernard Law, Archbishop of Boston, MA. He was ordained to the priesthood May 25, 1985 by the Most Rev. Daniel L. Ryan, Bishop of Springfield in Illinois, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. He served as Deacon at St. Mary's Parish, Taylorville; Sacred Heart Parish, Weston, MA; Parochial Vicar at Church of the Little Flower, Springfield, IL; Administrator, St. Michael's Parish in Greenfield, IL; St. Catherine's Parish, Hageman, IL; Administrator to St. Mary's Parish in Assumption, IL; St. Francis de Sales Parish, Moweaqua, IL; Administrator, St. Patrick's Parish, Pana, IL and then appointed Pastor of the Parish; Pastor of St. Mary's Parish, Pittsfield, IL; Holy Redeemer Parish, Barry, IL and Holy Family Parish in Griggsville. He retired from the active priesthood on April 20, 1999 and appointed to ''retired Priest status'' and named Chaplain at the Marian Heights Apartments, Alton, Illinois where he served until his death. The family of Reverend Donald Sederwall is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 South 6th Street, where friends may call from 4-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2001, with a wake service at 4:00 p.m. There will be an additional hour of visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m Thursday, October 11, 2001 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday by the Most Rev. George J. Lucas, Bishop of Springfield in Illinois, Principal celebrants will be the Most Rev. Daniel L. Ryan, retired Bishop of Springfield in Illinois, the Rev. Alan Hunter, the Rev. Daniel P. Barron, O.M.V., with other priests of the Diocese also concelebrating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Commission for Retired and Infirm Priests fund, 1615 West Washington, Springfield, IL 62708-3187.
