

Richard Wayne Crawford, 88, of Springfield, formerly of Chatham, Pawnee and Glenarm, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 at St. Johns Hospital. He was born April 5, 1930, in Mt. Auburn, IL to Robert and Zelma Tedrow Crawford. He married Joyce Elaine Bailey September 3, 1951 and she preceded him in death October 23, 2004. His brother, Norman, his sister Doris Schnebly, and granddaughter, Lori Kirk also preceded him in death. Richard served his country in the US Navy where he was a Chief Machinist for 23 years and a Navy Recruiter in Springfield for 4 years, retiring in 1969. He served during the occupation of Japan, Korean and Vietnam Wars. He worked at Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance Company, retiring after 28 years of service. He currently served as a night and weekend manager at Seasons at Pine Creek Retirement Community. He will be greatly missed by his son, Mark (Cathy) Crawford of Springfield; daughters, Claudia Howard of Springfield and Terry Reese of Pawnee; grandchildren, Michael Howard, Chance, Cooper and Grace Crawford; great granddaughter, Ryleigh Howard. His family will greet friends from 4pm-7pm, Sunday August 5, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, IL, 62629. Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10am, Monday, August 6, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, with Paula Staab Polk as Funeral Celebrant. Burial will follow at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense will conduct Military Honors.
