

Richard "Dick" Greiner, 78, of Springfield died at 10:35 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at his home. Dick was born June 6, 1936 in Altoona, PA, the son of George and Dorothy Holtz Greiner. He married Barbara Frizzell on January 13, 1962 in Tyler, TX. Dick was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School in Altoona, PA. He attended the National School of Aeronautics in Kansas City, MO and, after graduation, was offered a position with Delta Air Lines in Chicago. Dick was drafted into the Army in 1959 which included a one-year stint in Korea in 1960. After discharge from the Army, Dick returned to Delta in Chicago and one month later he was transferred to Dallas, TX where he met Barbara, the love of his life. His career took him to Cincinnati where they had their first child, R. Mark. Two years later they were transferred to Indianapolis, where they had their second child, Jason Eric. Dick retired from Delta in 1977 and moved to Springfield where he and Barbara owned and operated Landmark Sales until 1985, when he began his second retirement. At that time, for something to do, Dick remained involved in the automotive business until he fully retired. Dick enjoyed golf, bowling and playing cards. Love of family and God were his priorities. He was of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Connie, in Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons: R. Mark and his wife, Angela, and step-daughter, Johannah along with his sons David and Joshua from a previous marriage, of Pawnee, and Jason and his wife, Andria, along with their daughter, Lexi of Manchester, IL; one sister, Rita Hilyer and two brothers, Ronald (Purification) and Jerry (Barbara) Greiner, all of Patton, PA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: The family will receive friends from 1:00 until the time of the ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield with Rev. Juhlie M. Fancher officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery with military honors.
