Richard K. “Dick” Frederick, 85, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday August 20, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on February 1, 1928 in Lewistown, IL., the son of Burley and Ethel Mae Dorethy Frederick. Richard married Wanita Curless in Detroit, Michigan on December 30, 1950 and she survives.
Mr. Frederick is also survived by his daughter Lynn (Tom) Puls of Springfield, and his two granddaughters: Brianna (Jordan) Laier of Springfield and Brittany King of Chicago. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Dick was a US Navy Veteran serving in World War II aboard the destroyer escort USS Tomich (DE-242) and the Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Tarawa (LAH-1) and he also served in Korea. After his return to Springfield he owned and operated Dick’s Electric for forty seven years. Mr. Frederick was a member of Tyrian Lodge #333 AF&AM, Springfield Consistory, and an active ANSAR Shrine member where he was the Ansar Legion of Honor Commander in 1985 and he served as the Coordinator of Transportation for many years. Dick served as the President of the Springfield Home Builders Association and the Springfield Electrical Commission, he was a member of Westside Christian Church, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Monday August 26, 2013 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen, and burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct Military Honors. The family will meet friends from 2:00-5:00pm Sunday at the funeral home and a Masonic service conducted by Tyrian Lodge #333 AF&AM will start at 5:00pm.
