Richard L. Gibson, Sr.

Richard was born on February 14, 1949, in Peoria, IL, the son of Barton Monroe and Mary Williams Gibson. He married Debra L. Black on April 10, 1973, in Peoria.

Richard was a carpenter, an over-the-road truck driver, and worked for Henry, Nelch & Sons for 19 years. He was a member of Teamsters #916. Richard was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed camping, caring for animals, and riding his motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Barton Gibson, Jr., Fred Gibson, Robert “Bob” Gibson, Don Gibson, Steve Miller, and Leonard Miller; and beloved dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Debra L. Gibson; nine children, Laurie (husband, Larry) Averill of Berlin, WI, Cindy Everett of Riverton, Nellie (husband, Tim) Sharp of Springfield, Tina Roher of Curran, IL, Richard (companion, Betty Brown) Gibson, Jr. of Loami, IL, Crystal (husband, Donnie) Tedrow of Jacksonville, Matthew Gibson of Loami, Jennifer Gibson of Springfield, and David (significant other, Breanna Walsh) Gibson of Springfield; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Vicki (husband, Barry) Cox of Lufkin, TX; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
