Richard "Dick" Phillips, 72, of Springfield, died at 1:15 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. Dick was born July 9, 1939 in Springfield, the son of George Eugene and Eva Wells Phillips. He married Karen Marie Smith on May 16, 1959 in Springfield. Dick worked as a truck driver for almost 40 years at several trucking companies, including Balster Trucking, Stonehouse Trucking, and Lippold and Arnett Trucking. He loved his dog, Baby, fishing and cooking. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Phillips; and sister, Joann Charles. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karen M. Phillips of Springfield; two sons, Scott (fianc, Christine Homer) Phillips of Springfield and Toby Phillips of Tamms, IL; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Cathy, Michelle, Matt, Bryce, and Dustin; two great-grandchildren, Marcel and Mia; his faithful companion, Baby; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
