

Richard “Rick” W. Heimlich, 46, of Springfield, passed away at 7:09 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2002 at his residence. He was born January 9, 1956 the son of Charles I. and Mary Jane Watts Heimlich in Springfield. He married Joni Baker in Springfield on May 5, 2001 and she survives. His father preceded him in death. Rick began his professional career in 1982 with CB Richard Ellis Management in Houston, TX. In 1986, he joined Cushman and Wakefield in San Antonio, TX as a Building Superintendent. In July 1988, Rick returned home to Springfield, IL and started an illustrious career with the United States General Services Administration where he attained the position of Deputy, Property Management Center Director responsible for 8.5 million square feet of space in the State of Illinois and Indiana. Throughout Rick’s career, he has been honored with numerous national awards for energy conservation projects, which he personally conceived and executed. Rick also received recognition for his contribution towards the National Best Operated Field Office Competition. His successes also include the highly coveted regional Building Owners and Managers Office Building of the Year Award for the Federal Buildings in Danville, East St. Louis, Carbondale, and Indianapolis. Rick’s greatest legacy is his restoration of the 100 year old U.S. Courthouse in Indianapolis. Rick’s attention to the historic murals, stained glass, mosaics and statuary will be enjoyed by generations to come. Rick is dearly loved by all of his co-workers at G.S.A. His great smile and positive outlook on life has always been valued. His love for his children has been a big factor in Rick’s always giving his best. Survivors include his wife: Joni; three sons: David and Destin Heimlich at home, and Schuyler Heimlich in AZ; a daughter: Rikki Heimlich in AZ; a step-daughter: Elise Campbell at home; three brothers: Jim (wife, Patsy) Herron of Springfield, David (wife, Cathy) Heimlich of Springfield, and Phil (wife, Kathy) Heimlich of Springfield; two sisters: Sandra (husband, Jim) Taylor of Seimi Valley, CA, and Sally (husband, Jeff) Heimlich-Gebhardt of Springfield; his mother: Mary Jane Rice of Springfield, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2002. Funeral Services will be at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Phillip Kraft officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
