

Richard Henry "Dick" Sullivan, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 6:43 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 2010 at St. John's Hospice. Dick was born in Springfield, IL on March 13, 1923 to John W. and Blanche O. Trapp Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Robert; and son, Patrick. He attended St. James Trade School and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He married Mary L. Rathbone on September 21, 1946. Mr. Sullivan worked for 45 years at the C&IM Railroad, retiring in 1986. Dick enjoyed sports, gardening, reading, and walking. He especially followed SHG sports. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a member of St. Cabrini Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary L.; two sons, Richard J. "Joe" (wife, Barbara K.) Sullivan of Sherman and John G. (wife, Gail A.) Sullivan of Springfield; and two daughters, Marcia A. (husband, Clyde L.) Miller and Theresa M. (husband, Bruce) Hadden of Jupiter, FL. He also leaves ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 12:00 p.m., with Father Richard Chiola officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
