Robert L. Boardman

He was born in Springfield, July 22, 1917, the son of Julian L. and Sarah Elizabeth Snape Boardman. He married Betty Winstrom June 8, 1940 in Springfield and she preceded him in death Aug.16, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Karen L. McCord on June 9, 2009; a brother, Julian S. Boardman in 1970 and a sister Nadina Fowler in 2008.

Bob graduated from St. John’s Military Academy in Delafield, WI., attended Springfield Junior College, graduated from Worsham College, Chicago and attended Michigan State University. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Air Force from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed for 1 ½ years in Italy where he was a pilot of a C-47 Troop Carrier. He was the owner and Funeral Director of Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel until his retirement in 1980. After his retirement he lived in Tucson, AZ. For six years.

He was an Elder of First Presbyterian Church, served on the Board of Directors at First National Bank for 16 years, was a member of St. Paul’s Lodge #500 A.F.&A.M., Ansar Shrine, Springfield Rotary Club, Sangamo Club, Panther Creek Country Club , was a former member of the American Business Club and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan.

He is survived by his daughter Christine Parr(husband, William) of Springfield; grandchildren, Susan McCord , Rick McCord(Wife, Susan), Matt Parr(wife, Lauren), Jess Parr(wife, Amy) and Julia Werth ( husband, Jayson);Son-in-law, Richard K. McCord; great grandchildren, Nicholas Henderson, Lauren Henderson, Anna Parr, Ella Parr, Audrey Parr, Ryder Parr, Jackson Werth , Judah Werth and Jack McCord and special friend and caregiver, Karen Harmon.

Friends may call THursday Sept. 3, 2009 at Boardman-Smith Funeral chapel from 12:00 P.M. until the time of services there at 1:00 P.M. with the Rev. Dr. Clifford Hayes officiating.
