

Robert �Bob� Joseph McDermott, 80, of Springfield, IL, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1932, in Harrisburg, IL, the son of Wilburn and Beulah Hart McDermott. On December 16, 1989, he married Mary K. Goff. She preceded him in death July 30, 2007. Also preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Ruth Kocsis; and brother, Richard McDermott. Mr. McDermott served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, stationed at Yakato AFB in Japan. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, was assigned to the 808th Operations Squadron and discharged as a S/Sgt. Raised in Detroit and settling in Springfield, Bob began his culinary career at the famous Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island, MI. He continued his career as a baker for the Springfield Hilton, Ramada Renaissance, and Tasty Temptations. He worked as a parking attendant at the Springfield Hilton�s ramp ticket booth. Survivors include: nieces, Karen Lieb, of Ida, MI; Kathy Peterman of Southgate, MI; Kelly Elmer of Winthrop Harbor, IL; great nieces and nephew: Shannon Draeger, David Lieb and Melissa Lieb; great great nephew Nathan Draeger; and many friends. Cremation rites were accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham. Graveside Memorial Service: 10AM, Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Paula Staab Polk, celebrant. The Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct Military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor�s choice.
