

Robert �Bob� John Meiron, 72, of Springfield, IL, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012, in Sioux City, IA, following an auto accident in Nebraska. Born March 27, 1940 in Springfield, he was the son of John and Mary Trello Meiron, who preceded him in death. On September 23, 1996, he married Elvie Cataros. Mr. Meiron is survived by his wife Elvie; children: Robert �Bobby� Meiron of Hannibal, MO, Thomas �Tom� (Sara) Meiron of Key Largo, FL, Lisa (Jody) Jacobs of Hannibal, MO, Raina (Jason) Dodge of Gilbert, AZ, Antoinette �Toni� (Cole) Rugh of St. Peters, MO and Mark Meiron of Springfield ; grandchildren Nicholas, Olivia, and Robert John Nathaniel Meiron, Avabelle Dodge, Chase Rugh and one expected in October; sisters Pat Kersey of Big Pine Key, FL, Theresa (Jim) Williams of Kissimmee, FL; brothers Tom (Nancy) Meiron of Springfield, Leonard (Nancy) Meiron of Kansas City, KS; sisters-in-law Judy Meiron of Springfield, JoAnn (John) Christie of Mesa, AZ, and Rubelyne (Dan) Blanchette and her son Joshua Blanchette of Jacksonville; brother-in-law John (Sandra) Fulgenzi of Springfield; several nieces and nephews. Bob was a chef for 50 years, starting at age 14 at Balestri�s Grill. As a young Sous Chef, he prepared the famous cheese sauce for horseshoes at the Leland Hotel. He served as Executive Chef at the Peoria Ramada Inn and Rock Island Sheraton, where he mastered Kosher food preparation; Food and Beverage Director at Alexandria, LA Sheraton where he mastered Cajun Cuisine and Hannibal, MO Holiday Inn. He served as General Manager at the Quincy Holiday Inn and Topeka, KS Holiday Inn; Food and Beverage Director at Burlington, IA Best Western Pzazz, Executive Chef at Milan Country Club, Milan, IL, and assisted son Tom and was part owner/chef at The Bordello Restaurant in Hannibal, MO. Bob then retired for three months, but not wanting to remain idle, he drove an eighteen-wheeler for eight years and loved doing it. He retired again, this time doing odd jobs for friends and family. Bob also loved to fish and hunt. Visitation: Wednesday, September 26, 2012, beginning with a vigil service at 4PM and ending at 7PM at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Funeral Mass: Thursday, September 27, at 10AM, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 700 East Spruce Street, Chatham, with Fr. John Nolan, celebrant.
