Robert V. Denton

Robert V. Denton, 75, of Springfield, passed away at 7:40 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016 at his home. Bob was born on July 15, 1941 in Springfield, the son of Robert H. and Kathryn Siple Denton. He married Susan Elizabeth Hunt on January 6, 1984 in Rochester. Bob graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Feitshans High School in 1959, and then proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as a firefighter for the Springfield Fire Department for 33 years, eventually retiring as a captain. Bob went on to work in the State Fire Marshal's Office where he would retire once again, after 10 years of service. He was a wonderful mentor and generous man. Bob spent much of his time on the computer and enjoyed following the stock market. He enjoyed fitness and body building, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Robert L. "Bobby" Denton. Bob is survived by his wife, Susan Denton of Springfield; son, Branden (wife, Diana) Denton of Colorado City, TX; daughters, Diane (husband, Ron) Bortmess of Rochester, Deb (husband, Steve) Wollums of Flower Mound, TX, and Terese (husband, Darrell) Hurst of Springfield; grandchildren, Bradley, Jeremy, Robby, Blayne, and Austyn Denton, Elise (husband, Tyler) Walker, Ellen and Ali Bortmess, John (wife, Kylene), Grant, Clark, and Kara Lane, T. Ross (wife, Leslie) and Meghan McMurray; and two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Ben. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following visitation. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL 62703. Memorial Ceremony: 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL 62703 with Rev. Dean Probst officiating.
