
Robert E. “Bob” Dumas, 63, of Gainsville, TX, died Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Denton Regional Medical Center in Gainsville, TX. Bob was born February 25, 1940 in Vandalia, IL the son of Robert C. and Lois Long Dumas. He married Jerrie Self, March 20, 1964 in Coffeen, IL. Bob Dumas graduated from high school in Greenville, IL and later graduated from the DeVry Institute in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Advisory Campaign. He also served in the National Guard Armored Division. He had resided in Gainsville since 1974 and was employed by Kerns Furniture from 1974-1977, and by Valenite from 1978-2003. He was a past Worshipful Master of Gainsville Lodge #210, A.F. & A.M. and of Fish Creek Lodge #344, A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of Grace Friendship Baptist Church. He was one of the founders of Freedom Field Airfield, near Lindsay, and was a 26 year member of the Experimental Aircraft Association; a charter and life member of the American Motorcycle Association and Life Member of the Hogs. He is survived by his wife: Jerrie of Gainsville, TX; one daughter: Nancy Dumas of Gulfport, MS; two sons: John and Tom Dumas both of Gainsville, TX and one granddaughter: Holly Loraine Dumas of Gulfport, MS. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home 900 S. 6th St., Springfield is in charge of local arrangements.
