

Bob was born August 9, 1933, in Springfield, the son of Robert Nicholas Gasaway and Evelyn Jones Gasaway. He was a 1951 graduate of Springfield High School and 1955 graduate of the University of Illinois. Upon graduating college, Bob received his commission as a United States Army officer and served his country in Germany. Bob made a career at Security Bank of Springfield and was active in his community.
On August 20, 1955, Bob married the love of his life, Anna Geraldine Gasaway. Bob remained lovingly and devotedly married until Anna Geraldine’s death in 2020. Marriage, family, faith, and service were the center of his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Geraldine; his beloved parents; and his beloved grandparents, Charles Reynolds Jones, and Cecil Castles Jones.
Bob is survived by two sons, Robert Richard “Rob” (wife, Elizabeth) Gasaway of Chevy Chase, MD, and John Gerald (wife, Nicole) Gasaway of Sacramento, CA; one daughter, Ellen Louise (husband, Tom) King of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Spavone Carter of Grand Rapids, MI, Rachael Spavone (husband, Peter) Josephsen of Libertyville, Anna Elisabeth Gasaway of Chicago, Cecilia Marie “Lily” Gasaway and Marielle Louise Gasaway of Chevy Chase, MD, and Robert David Gasaway and John William Gasaway of Sacramento, CA; one great-grandson, Walter Josephsen of Libertyville; and one cousin, Sandra Jones Knox of Ruidoso, NM. He is also survived by many other cherished relatives and friends.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends and relatives from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Sacred Heart Church of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 730 S. 12th St., Springfield, IL. A Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James Isaacson, S.J.C., Msgr. David J. Hoefler, and Rev. Scott Thelander, S.J.C., celebrants.
Private family burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
