Robert D. Hines

Robert D. Hines, 80, of Springfield, passed away at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. Robert was born January 4, 1932 in Peoria, the son of Seward and Sophia Mihlof Hines. He married Therese Waterman on January 24, 1959 in Peoria. Bob was a 1950 graduate of Peoria Manual High School and retired in 1989 from the Illinois Air National Guard after a life-long military career. Robert was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He enjoyed traveling and fishing and was an avid sports fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gerald Hines. He is survived by his wife, Therese Hines of Springfield; two daughters, Janet (husband, Randy) Phillips of Springfield and Karen (husband, Chris) Hoffman of Ashland; five grandchildren, Hannah and Gabe Phillips, Amanda, Drew and Adam Hoffman; his daughter, Renee Lee and her family of Sacramento, CA; two sisters, Lois (late husband, Richard) Washburn of Springfield and Judith (husband, Harold) Motteler of Peoria; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence, Springfield, with Rev. Peter Harman celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided.
