

Robert Lee Hughs, III, 66, of Pleasant Plains, died at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at home, after a short battle with cancer. Bob was born April 23, 1949 in Springfield, the son of Robert L. Hughs, Jr. and Irma Louise Erney Hughs. Bob was a 1967 graduate of New Berlin High School and was a lifetime farmer and lover of the land. He volunteered for the New Berlin-Island Grove Fire Department for over 10 years. Bob was an excellent welder and metal fabricator and enjoyed watching racing in person and on t.v., tractor restoration, and riding his Harley. He won numerous trophies for his Dodge R/T and even earned a spot on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine. He was also an avid outdoorsman and great marksman. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Irma L. Hughs of Pleasant Plains; three sisters, Ruth (husband, Jack) Lauderback of Loami, Libby Hughs of Florida, and Diane (husband, Robert) Nation of New Berlin; his best buddy, Buck; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin. Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, with Pastor Benning officiating. Burial will follow at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
