

Robert E. "Bob" Hutchins, 84, of Springfield, passed away Monday, November 3, 2014 at 7:23 a.m. at his residence. Bob was born September 3, 1930 in Benton, Illinois, the son of Ruth Larkin. He married Patricia Filkins on July 21, 1951 in West Frankfort. Bob served his country in the United State Navy. He attended Lincoln Land Community College and later earned his bachelor's degree from Sangamon State University in 1977. Bob retired from the Illinois State Police as a sergeant in 1983, after 25 years of service. He was a member of Southern View Chapel and the Ansar Shriners. Bob loved football, the Bears, NASCAR, Tony Stewart, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and working in his yard. His mother, Ruth Larkin, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hutchins; one son, Jim (wife, Vanessa) Hutchins of Plainfield; three daughters, Melodie (husband, Greg) Williamson of Alexander, Robin (companion, Guy Mugavero) Hutchins of Downers Grove, and Penny Andrews of Arnold, MD; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Ceremony: The family will be hosting a memorial ceremony on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Southern View Chapel, 500 South 2nd Street, Springfield.
