Robert L. Powers, Jr.

Robert L. Powers, Jr. of Springfield, formerly of Palatine, died 1:12 p.m. on April 21, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center. Robert was born October 19, 1932 in Chicago, IL, the son of Robert L. Powers, Sr. and Vera Gain Powers. Mr. Powers had been employed by Bell and Howell for 26 years; he then became an instructor at Great Lakes Naval Base and later worked for Motorola Corporation as a security officer retiring in 1997. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving from 1949-1953. He enjoyed coin collecting, airplanes, reading and history. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert L. Powers, Sr and Vera Olinghouse. He is survived by two sons: Robert L. (wife, Jennifer) Powers, III of Springfield, William (wife, Kim) Powers of Muskegon, MI, one daughter: Colleen M. (husband, Aaron) Russell of Wheaton, IL; five grandchildren: Kelsey M. Russell, Ethan A. Russell, Adam R. Powers, Emily K. Powers and Brianna Ray; one step-brother: David (wife, Joan) Olinghouse of Fort Wayne, IN; step-father: Olie Olinghouse of Fort. Wayne, INand several nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Scott Brindley officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
