Robert Emmett Smith

He was born in Springfield on November 8, 1940, the son of Richard L. and Philomena (Riedinger) Smith. Robert married Norma Jane Drake in Springfield.

Robert attended Lanphier High School. He retired from CWLP Lake Services after working for over 25 years. In his free time, Robert loved cooking (he was famous for his BBQ pork steak), fishing, tending to his yard, and helping the neighbors with their own lawn. He also enjoyed watching the grandchildren swim and was a lifetime member of the Aqua Sports Club. Robert was kind, generous, and especially cherished his time with his family and dogs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; parents; daughters, Robin Smith and Sherri Costello; brothers, James and Richard Smith; and grandson, Robby Freligh.

Robert is survived by his son, Gary (Penny) Costello of NC; daughters, Kathy Goebel of Springfield, Michelle (John) Smith of Rochester, Kelly Smith of Springfield, and Bobbi (Chris Curran) Smith of Springfield; siblings, Marilyn (Bill) Tate of Springfield and George Smith of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Inurnment will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
