

Robert "Bob" W. Stoeppler, 70, of Springfield, passed away at 5:25 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at St. John's Hospice. Bob was born September 3, 1942 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Marcus Fred and Viola Jaehn Stoeppler. He married Betty Robinson Garecht on April 21, 1978 in Springfield. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked as a Manager for Graybar Electric for many years and in retirement was the owner of Bob's Butternut Hut. He was a former member of the Elks, American Legion, AMVETS, and the Illinois Liquor Association. Bob was known for being simple, caring, and understanding. He enjoyed socializing and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Springfield; one daughter, Michelle Stoeppler of St. Louis, MO; five step-children, Harvey (wife, Carol) Garecht of Williamsville, Andrew (wife, Tricia) Garecht of Springfield; Kim (husband, John) Garecht-Smith of Divernon, Karen (husband, Bruce) Harmening of Athens, and Kitty (husband, Don) Donath of Springfield; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following visitation. Memorial Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
