Rodger Lee Jones Sr.

He was born on February 12, 1945 in Springfield, the son of the late Herbert L. and Clara L. (Watkins) Jones, Sr.

Mr. Jones was a truck driver for Star Transport in Morton, IL. He had previously worked his way up from a laborer to Assistant Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the Springfield Park District from 1964 to 1982 and had owned and operated his own barber shop in Springfield.

He is survived by 4 children, Dawn (husband Greg) Terry of Jacksonville, FL, Barbara (husband Zach) Kelley, Nichole Jones, and Rodger Lee Jones, Jr., all of Springfield, 8 grandchildren, Greg, Shane, Jessie, Brett, and Shawn Terry, Cypriana Adams, Aaron Eddington, and Brooke Jones. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Herbert L. Jones, Jr. of Texas, Gary (wife Judy) Jones of Springfield and Donnie Jones of Springfield, and sister Clara (husband Robert) Rotherham of Pekin, IL. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Judy Jones-Powell and a brother Terry W. Jones.

Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 4 pm until time of the funeral service at 7 pm, with Rev. John Nelson officiating. According to his wishes, cremation will follow. Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11 am at Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield.
