Roger Bruce Whitaker

He was born on January 27, 1946, in Beardstown, IL, the son of William L. Whitaker and Eleanor (Timian) Whitaker. Roger married Victoria Katz on November 11, 2000, in Virginia, IL.

Roger graduated from Virginia High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri in 1970. He went on to work as chief engineer for Long Elevator Company/Kone Elevator Company. Roger was an avid ham radio operator since 1958 and enjoyed family genealogy…he successfully located family back to the 14th century and beyond to its Viking roots. He was known as a kind and understanding, smart, great man who loved his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roger is survived by his wife, Victoria Katz Whitaker of Springfield; children, Kimberly (Matthew) Napierkowski of Mundelein, IL, Amy Whitaker of Pittsburgh, PA, Douglas (Tiffany) Whitaker of Ashland, IL, and Theodore (Linda) Whitaker and Quinlyn (Jason) Murphy, both of Springfield; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Carol (Greg) Scholes of Springfield.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

A private Graveside Ceremony will be held at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia, IL.
