

Rose Marie Harris, 73, of Springfield, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at her residence with her family by her side. Rose was born February 6, 1944 in Springfield, the daughter of Frank and Ethel Schiffer Sloper. She married William Thomas Harris, Sr. on August 24, 1963 in Springfield; he preceded her in death on January 24, 2002. Rose was a Lanphier High School graduate. She enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother taking care of her family. After her children moved out of the house, Rose then worked at the Boss Glove Factory until she retired. In her spare time, Rose liked working in the yard, watching movies, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Frankie and Jimmy Sloper. She is survived by three sons, William T. "Bill" (Sheri) Harris, Jr. of Springfield, David L. (Jill) Harris of Springfield, and Gary A. (Katie) Harris of New Berlin; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; brother, Don (Beth) Sloper of Riverton; several nieces and nephews; and her cat, Jojo. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. The family will host a graveside ceremony at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, 5063 Camp Butler Road, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to ALS, St. Louis Regional Chapter, 2258 Welden Parkway, St. Louis, IL 63146 in memoriam to her late husband, William Thomas Harris, Sr.
