Rosemary D. Costa

Rosemary D. Costa, 88, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at St. John's Hospital. She was born June 2, 1926 in Decatur, IL, to Joseph and Kate Barton Gauer. She graduated from Ursuline Academy and St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. She married James W. Costa in 1949 at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James J. Costa; and one son-in-law, Douglas Garofalo. She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Carol (Dick) Kolhauser, Katherine Costa, Chris Garofalo, and Sandy Costa (Scott Marshall); three granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters. She was an executive secretary of the Springfield Catholic Youth Organization, a charter member of Christ the King Church, and a member of The St. Joseph's Home Coterie. She was a former member of Illini Country Club, The Sangamo Club, and the Union League Club of Chicago. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield. Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph R. Ring celebrant.
