Ross “Rossi” E. Shepard Sr. (75), of Palm Bay, FL (formerly of Springfield, IL) passed away after a short battle with post-operative complications on February 24, 2018 at Wuesthoff Medical Center in Melbourne, FL. He was attended by his three daughters at the time of his passing.
Born May 25, 1942 in Springfield, IL to Edna and Ross Clements Shepard, he was the middle child of five: Shirley (Don) McKain, Bill, Ronald, and Russell. He attended Feitshans High School in Springfield, IL, worked for many years with the local Carpenters Union #270 and was part-owner of the original Shepardo’s restaurant in Springfield, IL. He was married to Judith (O’Donnell), Linda (Wright), and Paula (Mohr). He moved to many cities (Auburn, Divernon, Girard, Athens, Port Orange (FL), Stone Mtn and Buckhead (GA)), before moving permanently to Palm Bay in 1999. He loved cooking, construction, cars, telling hilarious stories about his youth, and getting all of his family together. In Florida, he enjoyed the sunshine, beach, and singing karaoke as well as performing in a cover band “Southern Influence” for some time. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, shenanigans, and culinary skills.
He is survived by his four siblings; five children: Tracy Scroggins, Ross Jr, Geoff, Melissa (Ted) Starrick, and Courtney (Nick) Chancellor; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A public viewing will take place at Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E Allen St in Springfield, IL on Monday, March 5th from 9-11am with public service and internment immediately following at Oak Ridge Cemetery, 1441 Monument Ave. A public reception to honor Ross will take place at George Rank’s from 3-6pm at 1800 6th St.
Memorial donations (in lieu of flowers) may be made to SR-CRCC Scholarship, #1 Kalmia Way, Springfield, IL 62702. Proceeds will be applied towards scholarships in his name for kids’ college funds through the Local Carpenter’s Union #270.
