He was born on May 30, 1941, in Springfield, IL., the son of Roy A. and Bertha (Pavletich) Burt.
Roy married JoAnn Frances Viele on September 2, 1967, in Springfield. Roy and JoAnn were married for 57 wonderful years until she preceded him in death, on February 28,2024.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Debra Day.
Roy graduated from Feitshans High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966. Roy went on to learn carpentry and worked as a union carpenter for many years before he started a successful flooring business which he had until his retirement.
Roy was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching. He was a little league baseball coach for 25 years. Roy loved the St. Louis Cardinals. He also supported local High School sports and would attend many games throughout the city every year.
Roy is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Angela) Burt; grandchildren, Jason (Jessica) Griffin, Ryan (Jennifer) Griffin, Heather (Craig) Fargusson, Jarrod Day, Adrianne Tieman, and Alexandra “Lexi” Smith; two siblings, Jerome Burt, and Francine Bramblett of Pawnee; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to services.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home - Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the Ceremony at 11:30 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Grade School/Parish.
