Ruth Ann "Ruthie" "Ms. Ruth" McGlennon

Ruth was born on January 13, 1944, in Springfield, the daughter of Thomas and Dorothy (Kinsley) McGlennon.

She graduated from Ursuline High School in 1962 and earned an associate degree from Springfield College. During high school, Ruth studied piano and became an accomplished pianist under her great-aunt, Francis. She also worked as a nurse’s aide for St. John’s pediatrics and Zayre’s. During her professional career, Ruth worked as a kindergarten teacher for Sacred Heart Elementary School for 25 years. After her work at Sacred Heart, Ruth worked for Young’s Answering Service and Toddle Time Day Care. She volunteered at St. Cabrini School for several years as a foster grandparent and received three certificates from the State of Illinois for her excellent service. She loved children and taking care of others, especially her nieces and nephews. Ruth was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield and had deep faith. She was a resident of The Villas in Sherman for the last 11 years and was the president of the residents council for the past few years.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tommy (Bro. Terrence) McGlennon; brother-in-law, Darrell Barger; and sister-in-law, Joyce “Dee” McGlennon.

She is survived by her siblings, Terry (Anna) McGlennon of Dexter, KY, Mary Pat (Tim) Barnes of Owasso, OK, Colleen Wise of Springfield, Kevin (Laurie) McGlennon of Sherman, and Karen (Rick) Woodrum of Springfield; 15 nieces and nephews; and 28 great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, IL 62702, with Rev. Manuel P. Cuizon, PhD., celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
