Ruth J. Roberts

Ruth J. Roberts, 88, of New Berlin, passed away at 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at St. John's Hospice. Ruth was born September 19, 1927 in Springfield, the daughter of Evan and Frances (Summers) Taylor. Ruth was a graduate of New Berlin High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Knox College in 1949. She retired in 1997, after 35 years in the banking industry. After her retirement, she worked part time at the West Sangamon Public Library. She was a charter member of Unity Baptist Church and a current member of Central Baptist Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Farm Bureau, and served on the board of directors for the Community Health Center in New Berlin. She enjoyed reading. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, John T. Jeffers; and second husband, William P. Roberts. Ruth is survived by one son, Bruce D. (Connie) Jeffers of New Berlin; one daughter, Gail (Paul) Angott of Springfield; one brother, Edward W. (Phyllis) Taylor of Philadelphia, MO; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, 714 East Gibson Street, New Berlin. Funeral Ceremony: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Central Baptist Church, 600 W. Birch St., New Berlin with Rev. Mary Ellen Sharp officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
