

Sammy L. Jackson, 74, of Springfield, passed away on January 13, 2026 at his residence. He was born on April 15, 1951 in Greenville Mississippi to James Jackson and Bertha Carter Jackson. Sammy married Doris Tenbusch in Springfield on December 21, 1993 and she survives.
Mr. Jackson is also survived by his children: Angelique Jackson of Silver Spring, MD, Shanda Raglin of Springfield, IL, Daniel Jackson of Los Angeles, CA, Lacretia Schwartz (Matthew) of Bartlett IL, Michel'le Jackson of Springfield, IL, and Joshua Jackson of Springfield IL., nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, five sisters and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: Bertha Jackson (mother), James Jackson (father), James Jackson Jr. (brother), Bertha Laverne Jackson (sister), Linda Jackson (sister), Kimberly Jackson (niece), Zachary Pittman (nephew) and Lucas Schwartz (grandson).
Sammy was educated at Sacred Heart Catholic School (early years) and in the Greenville Public School system. He was a graduate of Coleman High School Class of 1969. While at Coleman HS, Sammy played in the band as a drummer and was one of their top drummers. Upon completion of HS, he was offered a full scholarship to attend Jackson State University, Jackson, MS.
Sammy graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from the University of IL-Springfield. He worked in electronics, substitute teaching, and for the Boys and Girls Club. He enjoyed a variety of music including classic R&B, blues, and jazz. He enjoyed reading, religious studies, and history.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday January 21, 2026 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:00am until the time of service at Bisch and Son.
