Samuel Robert Reid

Samuel Robert Reid, 77, of Springfield died on Friday, August 29, 2008 surrounded by his family who loved and adored him. Samuel was born July 20, 1931 in Ironwood, MI, the son of John L. and Florence K. McKay Reid. He married Shirley Traub on November 8, 1958 in Belleville, IL. Samuel was a proud veteran who served his country during the Korean War. Samuel was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mary Rita Clark and John O'Ryan Reid; nephew, Dennis Traub; sister-in-law, Alice May Traub; and brother-in-law, Earl William Traub. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley; his four children, Liz Reid of Springfield, John (wife, Denise) Reid of Springfield, Ann (husband, Tony) Libri of New Berlin, and Sarah (husband, Joel) Kurmann of Lake St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren, Maria Libri, Emily Weatherell, Shannon Reid, Kathleen and Sarah Toomey, Isabella Libri, Jack and Reid Kurmann; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Adam and Betty Carr of Belleville; sister-in-law, Marge Reid of Kansas City, KS; brother-in-law, Herb Clark of Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL 62703. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Robert J. Jallas celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County providing military honors.
