Scott was born September 22, 1961, in Springfield, IL, the son of Jerry and Donna (Gifford) Keafer. He married Lucinda “Cindy” Merritt in August 1981 and she survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Heather Bates (Andrew Frey) of Riverton, IL; son, Kyle (Betty) Keafer of Riverton, IL; son, Scott (Savannah) Keafer of Cantrall, IL; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Kelly Bushnell (Don, deceased) of O’Fallon, IL; sister Lori (Glenn) Kluge of Jacksonville, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Scott was a 1979 graduate of Lanphier High School. He worked as a Service Advisor for Green Toyota in Springfield. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Justin Algaier. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time, camping, and collecting coins and baseball cards. He also enjoyed playing Texas Hold’em with the Central State Poker League.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Donna, sister, Autumn Sinkhorn, and brother, Bruce Keafer.
Visitation and Funeral Service: Family will receive friends Friday, January 23, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 am at Riverton Christian Church, 1245 N 7th St, Riverton, IL, 62561. Pastor Brian Altwell will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
