

Sharon was born in Peoria, IL, May 11, 1951 the daughter of Robert O. and Patsy J. (Gabrielle) Hagen.
She married Larry L. “Digger” Gillespie Sr. August 12, 1972 and he preceded her in death November 15, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mark Hagen.
Sharon worked for several years as the cashier at Red Lobster and then retired from HSHS St. John’s Hospital. She was well known in the veterans organizations throughout Illinois supporting their efforts. She was also very involved with her husband with the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 534 and the Northender’s VFW Post 10302.
Sharon enjoyed bus trips to various places, watching her grandchildren play sports, was a dedicated LA Dodger and Golden Warrior fan.
Surviving are her two sons: Robby (Rochelle) Gillespie of Rochester, IL, and Larry L. Gillespie Jr. of Springfield, her grandchildren: Alanna, Arianna and Parker Gillespie of Rochester, Gavin Gillespie of Springfield and Justice Gillespie of Pawnee, IL, and her brothers, Rick Hagen of Rochester, Matt (Richelle) Hagen of Grand Rapids, MI, and Greg Hagen of Florida, and her sister, Kathy Hagen-Stapleton of Springfield.
Honoring Sharon’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory. A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. Charles Edwards officiating. Inurnment to follow with her husband there in Camp Butler.
