Shirley Dunas, 103, of Petersburg, passed away on April 4, 2024 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg. She was born on August 24, 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri to Morris Hilch and Jennie Feldman. Shirley married Dr. Frances Dunas on December 31, 1940 in St. Louis and he preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Dunas is survived by three children: Steve (Janet) Dunas, Rebecca Friedlander and Larry Dunas, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister Ruth Blair.
Shirley lived in Springfield most of her life growing up during the depression and World War II. She was a homemaker, she assisted with her husband’s medical practice and helped manage the Haven Nursing Home. Shirley volunteered with the Ronald McDonald House, she was a life member of Temple Israel and she was very active with Temple Israel Sisterhood. She loved her family and friends and had a genuine concern for them. She became a widow in 1984 and made her way through the good and the bad with a smile on her face.
