

Sister M. Thaddeus Clancy, O.S.F., 82, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on Monday, March 2, 2009, at 9:05 p.m. at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Illinois. Sister M. Thaddeus, the former Josephine Louise Clancy, was born in Berkley Village, Michigan, on March 22, 1926, the daughter of Edward Joseph and Catherine Beaghan Clancy. She entered the congregation on September 8, 1942, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1945. Sister was a 1949 graduate of St. John's Hospital School of Nursing. She served the community as a registered nurse at hospitals in Illinois. From 1965 through1988, she was a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL. She was currently assigned to the Motherhouse Health Services and was responsible for the medications for the sisters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles Clancy and Jerry Clancy; and six sisters: Mercedes Foster, Helen Regan, Loretta Schmidt, Dorothy Chaffee, Christina Berneker, and Margaret Joan Claussen. She is survived by two sisters, Sister Kathleen Clancy, OSF, of Alliance, NE, and her twin sister, Theresa Vespa of Naperville, IL; one brother-in-law, Wulfran Regan of Lawndale, CA; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 66 years. Visitation will be held at the Motherhouse from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2009. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Vincent Callahan, O.F.M., on Friday, March 6, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
