Sophia Mary Rape

Sophia Mary Rape, 96, of Springfield, passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010 at St. John's Hospital. Sophia was born July 11, 1914 in Spring Valley, the daughter of Felix and Sophia Molayte Bart. She married Burl Rape on October 19, 1932 in Pawnee. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1968. Sophia worked at the Lamplighter for many years and later worked at Days Inn as a housekeeper until she retired in her mid-70's. She was a member of the Rosary Society in Pawnee and delivered meals on wheels to others in her apartment building until she was in her 80's. Sophia enjoyed crocheting things for her family and friends, and she had a green thumb with flowers, enjoyed talk shows and audio books. She was a very generous, sweet, loving, independent and hard working woman. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Burl Robert Rape and Robert Francis Rape; three brothers; and one sister. She is survived by a son, Donald Roy (wife, Nancie) Rape of Lake Havasu City, AZ; two daughters, Marge Cody of Springfield and Dorothy (husband, David) Eldredge of Rochester; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1800 South Grand Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Peter C. Harman, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee.
