Sr. James Marie, 90, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died December 13, 2010. She was born to James and Marie (Green) Pallas in Chicago, IL. She joined the Springfield Dominicans in 1936. Sister began her teaching ministry in Redlands, CA. She taught elementary education and then music classes at several grade levels for thirty-eight years, at schools in Chicago, East St. Louis, Jacksonville, Rantoul and Springfield. From 1975-1986, Sister James Marie served the Springfield Diocesan Liturgy Office. She also served as Liturgist at St. Francis (Jerseyville) and Retreat Director at Queen of Peace (Fargo, ND). From 1991-2000, Sister taught music and worked in the bookstore at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. She lived at Sacred Heart Convent from 2000 until her death. Sr. James Marie was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, John, James and Alfred. She is survived by three nieces and a nephew, all from the Chicago area. Visitation at Sacred Heart Convent: Wednesday, Dec. 15, 3:30-6:15 pm; Wake Service: 4:30 pm; Funeral Mass: 6:30 pm with Rev. Peter Witchousky OP, presiding. Commendation and burial: Thursday Dec. 16, 10:00 am, Calvary Cemetery.
