
Sister M. Martin Flynn, 84, of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis passed away at 12:00 p.m., Monday, March 25, 2002 at St. Francis Convent. Sister M. Martin, the former Mary Ellen Flynn, was born January 26, 2002 the daughter of Martin and Sarah Goffney Flynn in Chicago. She entered the Congregation on February 2,1942 and professed her religious vows on October 4, 1944. Sister was a 1948 graduate of St. John's Hospital School of Nursing. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from St. Louis University in 1958. She served the community as a physical therapist at hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She also served in the areas of social work and pastoral care. She returned to the Motherhouse in 1989 due to failing health. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Patrick and Martin Flynn. She is survived by one sister: Sally Flynn of Berwyn, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; several cousins; and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for 60 years. Visitation will be held at the Motherhouse from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2002. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be con celebrated by Father Barnabas Diekemper. OFM and Father William Flanagan on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at 10 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery. The family and Franciscan Sisters of Sr. M. Martin Flynn O.S.F. is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
