

Sr. Agnes Eileen, OP, 94, a Dominican Sister of Springfield, died May 13, 2010 at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born to Frances and Stella (Brown) Convery in Farmersville, IL. She joined the Springfield Dominicans in 1935. She ministered for decades in Catholic elementary education. Illinois schools included: St. Norbert, Hardin; Ss Peter and Paul, Cary; St. Thomas, Newton; St. Francis, Jerseyville; St. Mary, Paris; St. Thomas, Philo; St. Joseph, Bradley; St. John, Carrolton; Holy Angels, Aurora; St. Vincent DePaul, Peoria; St. Edward & St. Christina, Chicago; St. Dominic, Quincy; and St. Kevin; East Alton. She also taught at St. Michael, Duluth, MN; Sacred Heart, Brawley, CA; Sacred Heart, San Diego, CA. In addition to general education instruction, Sister was a musician conducting church choirs, playing the organ for Masses and also taught classroom music. Sr. Agnes Eileen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother Jack; nieces, nephews, cousins and her Dominican Sisters. Visitation will be at Sacred Heart Convent, May 16, 2010 from 47 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on May 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Peter Witchousky OP, presiding. Commendation and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The Dominican Sisters and family of Sr. Agnes Convery are being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
