Steve Scattergood

Steve was born November 3, 1952 in Storm Lake, IA. He married Virginia Carol Smithwick on October 19, 2002 in Carlinville; she preceded him in death on June 11, 2011.

Steve graduated from Griffin High School and attended the University of Illinois. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he earned the rank of Captain. He was employed with SAGE computers and later as a driver for First Student. Steve was a member of the Navy Club and enjoyed computers, yardwork, spending time with his grandchildren and inventing crafty things for them.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Josephine Sacco Scattergood.

He is survived by his step-son, Jason (wife, Christina) Montgomery of Springfield; five grandchildren, Alexus, Alaina, Heaven, Hayden, and Bentley; sister, Margaret (husband, Danny) Millburg of Waggoner; niece, Richelle (husband, Scott) Loftus of Sherman; and cousins.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of the ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Pastor Clint Cook officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
