He was born on July 5, 1997, in Springfield, IL, the son of Brett and Bridgette (Halbert) Baker.
Steven graduated from Southeast High School in Springfield in 2015. He was hardworking, loyal, dependable, and always willing to step up for the people he cared about.
Steven proudly served in the United States Army with the 10th Mountain Division and deployed to Afghanistan in 2018. He later continued his military service in the National Guard. Steven was proud of his time in the military and the friendships and experiences that came with it.
After his military service, Steven continued serving others as a Springfield Police officer. He took great pride in his work, his fellow officers, and the community he served.
On June 4, 2022, Steven married Courtney Alexander in Pleasant Plains, IL. More than anything else, Steven loved being a husband and a dad. His children, Denver and Millie, were the center of his world. He loved being with them, watching them grow, making them laugh, and simply being their dad. The time he spent with Courtney and the kids meant more to him than anything.
Steven also knew how to enjoy life. He loved playing PlayStation, boating and riding jet skis while on vacation, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved the Fourth of July and lighting fireworks. Steven was also an avid dog lover and always had a special place in his heart for his dogs.
Steven will be remembered for the way he loved his family, his loyalty to his friends, his dedication to serving others, and the many memories he leaves behind.
Steven’s commitment to helping others continued after his passing through organ donation with Gift of Hope.
Steven is survived by his wife, Courtney; his children, Denver and Millie; his parents, Brett and Bridgette; and his brother, Mathew Baker.
