

Steven W. Markus, 89, of Chatham, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. Steve was born on September 2, 1925 in Springfield and was raised by his grandparents, Lucas and Mary Honiman. Steve piloted B-25 aircraft for the Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Marilyn Pointer on November 27, 1947. Mr. Markus was a member of Ansar Shrine, Valley of Springfield, Chatham Masonic Lodge #523, Royal Order of Jesters Court 20, and Order of the Eastern Star. He was active with Ansar Patrol and Senior Patrol, Chatham American Legion Post 759 and US Air Force Association. Mr. Markus was a cartographer for IDOT for 35 years. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Ball Chatham School District #5 for 12 years. He will be greatly missed by Marilyn, his wife of 67 years; daughter, Colleen (Sander) Reinhartz of Winter Springs, Florida; grandsons, Brian (Kelli) Reinhartz of Grand Island, FL and Lucas (Victoria) Reinhartz of Parrish, FL; and 5 great grandchildren, Jackson, Dylan, Samantha, August, and Violet; Chatham United Methodist Church family and many friends. His family will greet friends from 4-7pm, Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Rt. 4, Chatham. Masonic Services will be held at 6:30pm. Funeral service will be at 10am, Thursday, April 2, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham, with Rev. Sara Isbell officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Interveterans� Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
