Steven O. Sargent

Steven O. Sargent, 76, of Springfield died, Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at St. John’s Hospice. Steven was born November 28, 1927 in Bloomington the son of A.L. and Mary Condon Sargent. He married Marian Kienzler in 1951. Mr. Sargent graduated from Millikin University in 1950. He later earned an M.A. in Public Administration from the University of Illinois. He was employed by the Illinois Municipal League from 1953 until 1989, serving as Executive Director from 1968 until his retirement in 1989. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having been discharged in 1946. He was a member of the American Legion and the Sangamo Club. He was a member of Christ the King Parish. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Marian of Springfield; one son: Mark Sargent of Springfield; two daughters: Anne (husband, Bob) Barker of Springfield, Elizabeth Sargent of Palatine, IL; two grandchildren: Rachel and Joseph Barker; one sister: Irene Murphy of Springfield; one niece and one nephew. Family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry, Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ursuline Academy Library, 1400 N. 5th St. Springfield, IL 62702.
