He was born in Springfield on April 4, 1965, the son of Raymond and Pat Gahan Young.
Steven attended Bethany High School with the class of 1984 and later earned his political science degree from Eastern Illinois University. He proudly served in the Army as a second lieutenant from 1988-1992. Steven also worked in the Department of Revenue with the State of Illinois and was previously part of the Knights of Columbus. He loved computer games, reading military history books, and attending Cathedral. Steven’s family was important to him, especially his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Steven is survived by his parents; brother, Matt (Andrea) Young; and nieces and nephews, Tyler, Seth, and Brianna.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 E. Sangamon Ave, Springfield, at 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Sajimon Kuriakose officiating.
Burial will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Fr. Sajimon Kuriakose officiating.
