

Susan Kay Douglas, 65, of Springfield, passed away, after a year-long battle with cancer. She passed on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center, with her family by her side. She was born January 20, 1951 to the late Kenneth C. and Bernice E. (Dueker) Alderson. Susan married Bruce R. Douglas June 30, 1973 in Decatur, IL. She received her master�s degree from the U of I, and worked for District 186 as a teacher and librarian for many years before retirement. After retirement, she taught quilting classes in Rochester, IL. Her passions in life included quilting, stamping, reading and being involved with her family and grandchildren. Susan had a lifelong involvement in various church ministries. She will be greatly missed by Bruce, her husband of 43 years; sons: Brian (Jamie) Douglas of Appleton, WI, Derek (Nancy) Douglas of St. Louis, MO and Robert (Lauri) Douglas of Middleton, CT; grandchildren: Allison, Jacob, Kellen, Chloe, Cody, Owen, Gavin; brothers; Roland (Martha) Steibel of La Quinta, CA, Kenneth (Marilyn) Alderson of Springfield, and Bill (Maria) Alderson of Decatur, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois in Chatham, before services. Her Memorial Service will be held at 1pm, Saturday, July 9, at First United Methodist Church, 2941 Kokemill Road, Springfield, with Pastor Nicole Cox officiating. A celebration of Susan�s life will immediately follow the service until 4pm at the Church�s Community Life Center. Susan requested a casual reception to allow her family and friends to share her life�s stories.
